Transitioning from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4

Google has recently upgraded from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4(GA4). GA4 makes it easier to precisely measure a customer’s journey across platforms by combining a user’s web and mobile app data. GA4’s data collection also takes into account the increasing concerns consumers have around privacy and, in particular, cookie tracking.

If you are seeing your events come in as "direct" or "not set" and are expecting to see source, medium, or campaign data, you can check out this article for more information.

When do I need to transition to Google Analytics 4?

Google will sunset Universal Analytics in July 2023. On that date our Universal Analytics integration will stop working. Since transitioning to GA4 can take some time depending on the size of your business, we encourage you to start the switch now.

What do I need to do?

Follow the instructions in our Google Analytics 4 integration article to learn how to integrate your CallRail account with GA4.

You can use both Universal Analytics and GA4 at the same time. You do not have to turn off Universal Analytics while you work on setting up GA4. This way you won’t have any downtime or lose any valuable data during your transition.
