Google AdWords Integration

CallRail makes it possible to track calls as conversions in Google AdWords when you use keyword-level tracking. Once your integration with AdWords is active, we’ll report your Google PPC calls to AdWords as conversions.

With our keyword-level tracking, we’ll capture the Google click ID (gclid) for each of your visitors. When a call is received, AdWords will recognize the click ID we send over and create that call as a conversion automatically.

Use this article to learn how to:

  • Integrate directly with Google AdWords
  • See your calls as conversion in AdWords
  • Disable your Google AdWords integration

Getting Started

CallRail’s integration with Google AdWords requires the following:

  • Keyword-level tracking
  • Auto-tagging enabled within your AdWords account

Before setting up your integration, we recommend signing into the AdWords account you'd like to use first.

If you manage more than one AdWords account, you can use this help article to set up an AdWords Manager Account where you will be able to see every account you manage before configuring the AdWords integration in CallRail.

  4. Click Authorize. This will redirect you to AdWords' website where you will be asked to authorize CallRail to send data to your account. Before authorizing CallRail's access, you'll want to ensure you're logged into the AdWords account you'd like to use for this integration.

Viewing Call Conversions in AdWords

Once your AdWords integration is active, incoming Google PPC calls to your keyword tracking pools will start to report in AdWords. Use this set of instructions to find your call conversions in AdWords.

  1. Once you're logged into AdWords, select Tools at the top of the page, then click Conversions.

  2. Your phone call goal in AdWords displays as Phone Call with a source of Import from Clicks. Your conversions report on the right-hand side of this row.

Changing the name of the conversion ("Phone Call") will prevent CallRail from sending your conversion data to AdWords.

Tracking Keywords in CallRail

Adding the ?keyword={keyword} parameter to your URLs in AdWords is a recommended last step to setting up your AdWords integration. Using this parameter in your ad’s URLs will allow for your keyword data to display on your call log and in caller’s timelines.

Adding this parameter allows you to see which keywords are driving calls to your tracking numbers. This step is optional. If you choose to not add this parameter to your URLs, calls will still report as conversions in AdWords once the integration is configured properly.

Instructions for adding this parameter is available in this help article:

Disabling AdWords Integration

Disabling a company's integration will prevent conversions from reporting to AdWords. We'll keep your AdWords credentials saved in case you'd like to re-activate your integration in the future.

  1. Choose the company whose integration you'd like to disable.
