Google Ads Integration

CallRail makes it possible to track calls as conversions in Google Ads when you use keyword-level tracking. Once your integration with Google Ads is active, we’ll report your Google PPC calls to Google Ads as conversions.

With our keyword-level tracking, we’ll capture the Google click ID (gclid) for each of your visitors. When a call is received, Google Ads recognizes the click ID we send and creates that call as a conversion automatically.

Use this article to learn how to:

  • Integrate directly with Google Ads
  • See your calls as conversions in Google Ads
  • Disable your Google Ads integration

Getting Started

CallRail’s integration with Google Ads requires the following:

  • Keyword-level tracking
  • Auto-tagging enabled in your Google Ads account

We recommend signing into the Google Ads account you'd like to use before setting up the CallRail integration. This helps ensure the correct Google Ads account is linked to CallRail during setup.

If you manage more than one Google Ads account, use this help article to set up a Google Ads Manager Account. This gives you the ability to see every account you manage before configuring the Google Ads integration in CallRail:

Integrating with Google Ads

CallRail’s integration with Google Ads is company-dependent in your account. Follow the instructions below for each company you’d like to integrate with Google Ads.

  1. Choose the company you’d like to integrate with Google Ads.

  4. Click Authorize. This will redirect you to Google Ads's website where you will be asked to authorize CallRail to send data to your account. Before authorizing CallRail's access, you'll want to ensure you're logged into the Google Ads account you'd like to use for this integration.

    Note:
if you're managing more than 50 companies, you may reach the Google Ads API request limitation and receive authorization errors. To resolve this issue, you'll need to create a second Google account to use for integrating any companies beyond 50.

  5. Choose Allow to authorize CallRail’s access.

  3. Your phone call goal displays as Phone Call with a source of Import from Clicks. Your conversions report on the right-hand side of this row.

Important note: Changing the name of the conversion ("Phone Call") will prevent CallRail from sending your conversion data to Google Ads; however, you can edit the other conversion fields if you'd like.

Tracking Keywords in CallRail

Adding the ?keyword={keyword} parameter to your tracking template in Google Ads is the recommended last step in setting up your Google Ads integration. Using this parameter in your tracking templates allows your caller's keyword data to display on your call log and in caller’s timelines. If you choose to not add this parameter to your URLs, calls will still report as conversions in Google Ads once the integration is configured properly.

Instructions for adding this parameter are available in this help article:

Creating Tracking Templates to See Keyword Data in CallRail

Disabling Google Ads Integration

Disabling a company's integration will prevent conversions from reporting to Google Ads. We'll keep your Google Ads credentials saved in case you'd like to re-activate your integration in the future.

  1. Choose the company whose integration you'd like to disable.
