AdWords Mobile Click-to-Call Integration

CallRail's Google AdWords Mobile Click-to-Call integration allows you to track keywords associated with your customer's mobile searches. By matching your calls with your clicks, CallRail reports the keywords associated with calls to your call-only ads, as well as your mobile campaigns that have mobile-only call extensions.

Getting Started

In order to use this integration, you'll need to have an active AdWords Mobile Click-to-Call tracking number. You'll place this click-to-call tracking number into the call-only ads in your AdWords campaigns, or in a mobile campaign with mobile-only call extensions.

If you haven't already created your mobile click-to-call tracking number, follow the instructions in this article, then return to this article to complete your integration setup.

Create an AdWords Mobile Click-to-Call tracking number

Integrating with AdWords Click-to-Call

This integration is company-dependent within your account. Use these instructions for each company where you'd like to activate the AdWords Mobile Click-to-Call integration.

  1. Click Settings at the top of the page.


  2. Choose the company you’d like to integrate with AdWords Mobile Click-to-Call.


  3. Select All Integrations from the Integrations menu on the left.


  4. Choose AdWords Mobile Click-to-Call from the list of available integrations.


  5. Select Authorize.


  6. Choose the Google account you'd like to associate with this integration.

  7. Click Allow to authorize CallRail's offline access.

  8. Select the AdWords account you'd like to use for this integration.

  9. Click Save when finished.


Adding Your Tracking Number to AdWords

Once you've authorized your integration in CallRail, add your mobile click-to-call tracking number to your campaigns in AdWords. This integration will only capture keyword data for tracking numbers that have been placed within call-only ads or a mobile campaign with mobile-only call extensions.

  1. Once you're logged into AdWords, select Campaigns at the top of the page.

  2. Select the Ad extensions tab.

  3. Click the extensions drop-down menu to select View: Call extensions.

  4. Add or edit your mobile campaigns to include the new AdWords Mobile Click-to-Call tracking number.

  5. If editing, select the option add or replace the phone number currently in the call extension with the CallRail number you just created. Then click Make changes.

Your Click-to-Call Data

Once your integration is active and you've received calls to your mobile click-to-call tracking number, your keyword data will appear in your call log and in your caller's timeline.

  1. Choose the company whose mobile click-to-call data you'd like to review.


  2. Click Activity at the top of the page.


  3. The Keywords column displays the keywords each caller used to find your mobile ad.

  4. To see additional information about a specific caller, click to open their Timeline.


  5. The keywords the caller used are available in the Caller box next to Initial Source.


Disabling Your Integration

Disabling a company's AdWords Mobile Click-to-Call integration will prevent keywords from reporting in your call log, but won't disable your click-to-call tracking number. We'll keep your integration credentials saved in case you'd like to re-activate your integration in the future.

  1. Click Settings at the top of the page.


  2. Choose the company whose integration you'd like to disable.


  3. Select All Integrations from the Integrations menu on the left.


  4. Choose AdWords Mobile Click-to-Call from the list of integrations.


  5. Select Disable Integration on the right side of the page.


  6. Click Disable to turn off your integration.

Unlinking CallRail from AdWords

If you'd like to remove CallRail's access from your AdWords account, you can do so from your AdWords security settings.

  1. Log into the AdWords account you'd like to unlink from CallRail.

  2. Select your account drop-down at the top of the page, then click Account.

  3. In the Sign-in & security tab, click Connected apps & sites.

  4. Click Manage Apps in the box that lists each app connected to your account.

  5. Click on CallRail and then select Remove


Will calls to my AdWords click-to-call tracking number report as conversions in AdWords?

Calls to your click-to-call tracking numbers won't report as conversions in AdWords. In order for calls to report as conversions in AdWords, you'll need to be using keyword-level tracking.

What happens if I disable my AdWords Mobile Click-to-Call integration?

If you disable your AdWords Moble Click-to-Call integration, your mobile click-to-call tracking number(s) will remain active, and will still report calls in your call log; however, those calls won't report the keywords associated with the click. Disabling the integration simply prevents keywords from reporting to CallRail, and won't disable your tracking numbers or interrupt your call routing.
