Universal Analytics integration

Heads up!

Google has recently upgraded to Google Analytics 4(GA4). We will be sunsetting our Universal Analytics integration in July 2023. Click here to learn how to make the switch to GA4.

Universal Analytics gives you insight into how your visitors find and interact with your website. CallRail integrates with your existing Universal Analytics account by sending your call, text, and form submission data to goals you’ve created in Universal Analytics.

If your integration is already set up but you sense something may be wrong, check out our troubleshooting help article for solutions to common integration errors.

Integrating with Universal Analytics

CallRail’s integration with Universal Analytics is company-dependent in your account. Follow the instructions below for each company you’d like to integrate with Universal Analytics.

  1. Click the Settings icon on the left navigation bar.

  2. Choose the company you’d like to integrate with Universal Analytics.

  3. Click Integrations at the top of the page.

  4. Choose Universal Analytics from the list of integrations.

  5. Enter your website’s URL, then click Create. CallRail will attempt to find your Universal Analytics ID and automatically input your profile type. If we’re unable to automatically detect this information on your website, or if you’d like to point to a different Universal Analytics account, you can manually enter your Universal Analytics ID and select your profile type.

Call goals

After you activate your integration in CallRail, you’ll want to add your goals to Universal Analytics. This is where we report your data to Universal Analytics. The goal setup you use depends on the type of interaction you'd like to track:

- Set up a call goal in Universal  Analytics.

- Set up a text goal in Universal Analytics.

- Set up a form goal in Universal Analytics.

Goals track actions that affect revenue. They are an indicator of a site visitor converting into a customer, hence their activity being known as conversions. These include reaching a specific place on your site, like a checkout page. These can be seen in the “Conversions” reports in your Universal Analytics account.

Events track user behavior, and are not dependent on a certain page of your site being reached. Examples of an event include button clicks and video views. These can be seen in the Behavior reports in your Google Universal Analytics account, such as the Top Events report.

Disabling Universal Analytics integration

Disabling a company's integration with Universal Analytics will prevent your call data from being sent to your Analytics account. We'll keep your Universal Analytics credentials saved in case you'd like to reactivate your integration in the future.

  1. Click the Settings icon on the left navigation bar.

  2. Choose the company where you'd like to disable the integration.

  3. Click Integrations at the top of the page.

  4. Choose Universal Analytics from the list of integrations.

  5. Select Disable Integration on the right side of the page.

FAQs

Can I integrate a company with more than one Google Analytics account?

Each company in your account only sends call, form, and text message data to a single Google Analytics account. We recommend creating a company for each Google Analytics account you’d like to integrate with, and creating tracking numbers or forms within those companies for each Analytics account you’d like to integrate with.
