Agency Text Messaging Compliance FAQs

In this article we’ll address some commonly asked questions from agencies about A2P 10DLC, The Campaign Registry, and the Text Message Compliance Registration process. This article is geared toward marketing agencies and multi-location businesses that use CallRail. If you aren't an agency, use this article instead.

If you haven’t registered yet, you can click here to fill out the initial registration form.

What is A2P 10DLC?
Application-to-Person Ten Digit Long Code (A2P 10DLC) is a system offered by mobile carriers which allows businesses to send messages from ten-digit numbers. An Application-to-Person (A2P) text message is a business text message sent from an application or online platform. 10-Digit Long Code (10DLC) refers to any North American phone number with a local area code. All CallRail customers who send text messages through the platform will be considered an A2P use case.

What is The Campaign Registry?
The Campaign Registry (TCR) is the entity coordinating 10DLC messaging campaign registrations. They work with mobile carriers and industry partners to ensure compliance with the new standards for 10DLC messaging.

Who needs to register?
Any business using U.S or Canadian phone numbers sending text messages to U.S. phone numbers must register.

The purpose of registering your business is to improve delivery quality and lower filtering risks, so you can be sure your messages are reaching your customers. These changes will also protect against spam and unsolicited messages.

What happens if I don’t register?
Every business that wants to send text messages must register. If you do not register your business, you will not be able to send messages from your CallRail phone numbers.

Will I still receive text messages to my tracking numbers if I don't register?
If you do not register your business, you will still receive inbound text messages. However, you will not be able to send text message responses from your CallRail phone numbers if you are not registered.

What if I don’t send a lot of texts?
Regardless of how many messages you send, you need to register your business. Mobile carriers will block any text messages sent from unregistered businesses.

Our agency or clients use the Automated Response feature for missed calls or form submissions. Do we need to register?
Every business that wants to send text messages, including automated text message responses for missed calls or form submissions, must register. If you do not register your business, these features will not be able to send messages from your CallRail phone numbers.

How do I register?
You can click here to fill out the registration form. This article provides more information about the form fields required.

What do you recommend for specific agency account configurations?
We put together this helpful resource that explains the registration process for all different types of agency account configurations.

How much does it cost to register?
Each individual CallRail account that registers will be charged the one-time registration fee ($19) and monthly fee ($1.50). For more information on how fees will be applied based on account configuration, please use this guide. After July 31, 2023 these fees will be passed through to TCR and will begin to appear on your invoice once your registration is confirmed.

Where can I see updates about my registration?
Our Support team will keep you up to date via email on the status of your account's registration throughout the process, and will provide confirmation upon successful registration.

Can I expedite the registration process?
The best way to ensure the process is completed in a timely fashion is to make sure you filled out our registration form correctly. See this article for more information on the registration form. It may take up to 30 days for your information to be verified and added to the registry. However, in many instances, this will happen more quickly. Unfortunately, there is no way to expedite this process.

What if I’m porting my numbers from another provider where I was registered for 10DLC?
Businesses need to be registered through their current texting vendor, so even if you've previously registered your number and business, you'll need to register again with CallRail if you want to send text messages from any of your CallRail phone numbers.

What is a campaign?
A campaign identifies what kind of messages you are sending customers. For example, if you want to send out appointment reminders via text, your campaign would be “appointment reminders”.

Will I receive a separate bill or invoice from TCR for registration and compliance?
No, CallRail will bill you for all fees associated with TCR and A2P 10DLC as part of the registered account’s invoice.
