In this article we’ll address some commonly asked questions from agencies about:

  • Application-to-Person Ten Digit Long Code (A2P 10DLC)
  • The Campaign Registry (TCR)
  • and the Text Message Compliance Registration process.

This article focuses on marketing agencies and multi-location businesses that use CallRail. If you are not an agency, use this article instead.

If you haven’t registered for A2P 10DLC yet, click here to fill out the initial registration form.

What is A2P 10DLC?
A2P 10DLC is a system offered by mobile carriers which allows businesses to send messages from ten-digit numbers. An Application-to-Person (A2P) text message is a business text message sent from an application or online platform. 10-Digit Long Code (10DLC) refers to any North American phone number with a local area code. All CallRail customers who send text messages through the platform are A2P use cases.

What is The Campaign Registry?
The Campaign Registry (TCR) is the entity coordinating 10DLC messaging campaign registrations. They work with mobile carriers and industry partners to ensure compliance with the new standards for 10DLC messaging.

Who needs to register?
Any business using a U.S or Canadian phone number for sending text messages to U.S. phone numbers must register.

The purpose of registering is to improve delivery quality and lower filtering risks. This way you can be sure your messages are reaching your customers. These changes will also protect against spam and unsolicited messages.

What happens if I do not register?
Every business that wants to send text messages must register. If you do not register your business, you will not be able to send messages from your CallRail phone numbers.

Will I still receive text messages to my tracking numbers if I do not register?
If you do not register your business, you will still receive inbound text messages. However, you will not be able to send text message responses from your CallRail phone numbers.

What if I do not send a lot of texts?
Regardless of how many messages you send, you need to register your business. Mobile carriers will block any text messages sent from unregistered businesses.

Our agency (or clients) use the Automated Response feature for missed calls or form submissions. Do we need to register?
Yes. If you do not register, you will not be able to send automated text responses from your CallRail phone numbers.

How do I register?
You can click here to fill out the registration form. This article provides more information about the form fields required.

What do you recommend for specific agency account configurations?
Please view this CallRail support article for more information.

How much does it cost to register?
Each individual CallRail account must pay a one-time registration fee of $19 USD and a monthly fee of $1.50 USD. After July 31, 2023 these fees pass to TCR and will begin to appear on your CallRail invoice once we have confirmed your registration. Please see this guide for more information on how fees will be applied based on account configuration.

Where can I see updates about my registration?
Our Support team will keep in contact via email during the registration process. We will also provide confirmation upon successful registration.

Can I expedite the registration process?
Unfortunately, there is no way to speed up A2P 10DLC registration. The best way to register in a timely fashion is to make sure our registration form is filled out correctly. See this article for more information on the registration form.

It may take up to 30 days to verify your information and add it to the registry. In many instances, however, this will occur much sooner.

What if I am porting my numbers from another provider where I was registered for 10DLC?
A2P 10DLC requires businesses to register through their current texting vendor. Even if you have registered your number and business before, you will still need to re-register with CallRail.

What is a campaign?
A campaign identifies what kind of messages you are sending customers. For example, if you are sending appointment reminders via text, your campaign would be “appointment reminders”.

Will I receive a separate bill or invoice from TCR for registration and compliance?
No, CallRail will bill you for all fees associated with TCR and A2P 10DLC as part of the registered account’s invoice.
