The Nutshell CRM integration connects CallRail with your Nutshell account so that every tracked call and text message automatically creates or updates a contact and lead in Nutshell. You can view all your leads in a single dashboard, along with the marketing sources that generated them, helping you connect your advertising to actual revenue.
Before You Begin
Before setting up the Nutshell integration, make sure you have the following:
- An active CallRail account with at least one tracking number set up.
- An active Nutshell CRM account.
- A Nutshell API key. You can generate one in Nutshell by going to Settings > API Keys > Create New API Key.
This integration is available on all CallRail plan tiers.

Data
For each call or text message received through a CallRail tracking number, the integration will create or update a Contact and a Lead in Nutshell.
Contact: CallRail searches for an existing contact in Nutshell by phone number first, then by email address. If a match is found, the contact is updated with any new information. If no match is found, a new contact is created with the following fields:
- First name, last name
- Phone number
- Email address
Lead: CallRail finds an open Lead associated with the contact and updates it, or creates a new Lead if none exists. The following information is added to the Lead as a note:
- Attribution: Source, Medium, Campaign, and Landing Page (first-touch)
- Call Summary (when available; requires Conversation Intelligence to be enabled)
Optionally, CallRail can populate the following custom fields in Nutshell if you have created them manually in your Nutshell account:
- callrail_source
- callrail_medium
- callrail_campaign
- callrail_landing_page
- callrail_id
Note: If these custom fields do not exist in your Nutshell account, CallRail will still create the contact and lead. Attribution data will be captured in the lead note instead.
Note: This integration supports calls and text messages. Form submissions are not currently supported.
Deactivating the Nutshell Integration
Deactivating the integration will stop your call and text data from being sent to Nutshell. Your credentials will be saved so you can reactivate at any time.
- Select the Integrations icon on the left navigation bar.
- Select Nutshell from the list of integrations.
- Choose the company where you would like to deactivate the integration.
- Select Deactivate Integration on the right side of the page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I seeing duplicate contacts in Nutshell?
The integration searches for an existing contact before creating a new one. To avoid duplicates, allow the contact to be created or updated by the integration before manually adding a record with the same phone number or email address.
Can I send form submissions to Nutshell through this integration?
No. This integration supports calls and text messages only. Form submissions are not currently supported.
Do I need Conversation Intelligence to use the Nutshell integration?
No. Conversation Intelligence is optional but recommended. When enabled, a call summary is included in the Lead note in Nutshell. Without it, attribution data is still captured and passed along.
What data does CallRail send to Nutshell for text messages?
For text messages, CallRail sends the same contact information (first name, last name, phone number, email address) and attribution data (source, medium, campaign, landing page) to the Lead note. Call summaries are not included for text messages.
